Salzburgring ADAC Bavaria Rennen - 19/20 June 1971
This was the debut outing for the AMG Mercedes-Benz 300SEL 6.8, entered as car #117 and driven by 'Enrico', who qualified second on the grid. The heavy rain during qualifying did not deter ‘Enrico’, the pseudonym of none other than Erich Waxenberger, who just happened to be at the track with his racing helmet in hand. As a Daimler-Benz development engineer, motor racing activity was prohibited. Details are sketchy, but the car was pushed off the grid just before the race started, but apparently finished third overall.
