FIA Homologation Documents
Below are the homologation documents approved by the FIA for the three 300SEL 6.3s that raced in 1969. However, further homologation applications and approvals took place after Daimler-Benz ended the 300SEL 6.3 racing programme. It is unknown whether Daimler-Benz AG wanted to pick up this programme in future, or whether the racing programme continued using AMG as a front, with full factory backing. Daimler-Benz AG always insisted that there was no factory involvement in the AMG racing programme.

1st Approval

The first homologation application was made by Daimler-Benz AG for the 300SEL 6.3 in standard form on 10 February 1969 and was approved on 1 April 1969. Optional extras, like the tropical kit sump guards, were also approved in this application.

2nd Approval

A second homologation application was made for the 300SEL 6.3 on 10 February 1969 and was approved on 1 April 1969.
This approval allowed larger and wider steel wheel rims from the standard 6.5J 14 inch rims to 7J 15 inch steel rims. The approval also covered special lightweight 15 inch aluminium wheel rims of 5.5J with integrated cooling fans.

3rd Approval

A third homologation application was made for the 300SEL 6.3 sometime in July 1969 and was approved on 1 October 1969.
This approval allowed the use of a 5-speed ZF manual gearbox, model S 5242.
By the time this approval came through, the official racing programme by Daimler-Benz for the 300SEL 6.3 had been terminated.

4th Approval

A fourth homologation application was made for the 300SEL 6.3 on 26 June 1969 and was approved on 1 October 1969.
This approval allowed the gear ratios of the 5-speed ZF manual gearbox to be changed. It also corrected the original homologation document which had noted the intake manifold diameter as 38mm, instead of the correct 72mm.

5th Approval

A fifth homologation application was made for the 300SEL 6.3 on 14 November 1969 and was approved on 1 January 1970. This approval allowed a number of changes which would result in the car looking exactly like the AMG 300SEL 6.8, which made it's debut at Salzburgring in June 1970.

The approval allowed the following:

1) Fifteen inch wheel rims of 9, 10 and 12 K.
2) Wheel rims could either be steel of 16kg, or light metal alloy of 7kg.
3) Widening of wheel arches for a maximum chassis width of 1910mm over the standard 1810mm.
4) Brake disc thickness increase of 19 and 23mm.
5) Cooling fan blade increase from 6 to 8 blades.
6) Diameter increase in the engine valves.
7) Two fuel pumps in parallel.

6th Approval

A sixth homologation application was made by Daimler-Benz AG on 14 Novermber 1969 and was approved on 1 January 1970.
Part of the application was for the use of Plexiglass for the side windows and rear screen of the car, but this was denied. The use of mechanical window winders to replace of the electric window winders was approved for safety reasons, and a reduction in the weights of the driver and passenger seats to 13kg was allowed.
