12 Hours Paul Ricard - 11/12 September 1971
The Paul Ricard race was comprised of two six-hour heats and the prize money attracted some racing stars of the time, like Graham Hill and Jacky Ickx.
AMG entered the 300SEL 6.8 as car #11 driven again by Hans Heyer and Clemens Schickentanz, and qualified 15th on the grid in 2m 24.3s.
A second AMG 300SEL 6.8 was entered as car #12 by privateer Klaus Behrmann, co-driven by José Dolhem and Jean-Pierre Jabouille which qualified 26th in 2m 29s.
In Heat 1, the AMG Mercedes-Benz completed 264 laps and then retired with rear suspension failure. The Klaus Behrmann Mercedes-Benz finished in 5th place.
In Heat 2 the AMG Mercedes-Benz finished in 11th place and the Klaus Behrmann car retired with oil pressure failure.
