Int. ADAC 24 Stunden Rennen Nürburgring - 24/25 June 1972

The ban on 5 litre cars was lifted during the year, but only after entries to the Spa 24 Hours on 23 July 1972 were closed.

The AMG was entered as car # 1 and qualified 4th on the grid driven by Hans Heyer and Thomas Betzler in 9m 27.6s. After the first lap the Mercedes was in the lead but overheating saw a return to the pits. After a quick re-fill the car was out again. After another routine pit stop during the race the differential locked and the car couldn’t move, and it was forced to retire.
